PRP Therapy
PRP (Platelet Rich Plasma) is a revolutionary treatment for androgenic alopecia, hair thinning, hair loss, and scalp dehydration, as well as the notoriously stubborn hyperpigmentation of melasma.
Why this treatment?
Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) Therapy is a natural and effective treatment for alopecia.
Additionally, it has proven to be a highly effective treatment for men and women who suffer from common hair and scalp issues including thinning hair, hair loss, hair breakage, as well as scalp dehydration, scalp sensitivity, and dandruff.
Platelets are your body’s richest source of collagen promoting growth factors and for these reasons, we use PRP for conditions which require tissue rejuvenation. In platelet rich plasma therapy, we precisely and delicately place these peptides and growth factors into skin involved by melasma and helps improve fading of this stubborn condition and improves over subsequent six to eight weeks.
PRP FAQs
-
Platelets in your bloodstream are full of natural growth factors and play a key role in the healing process of the body. Because platelets provide a great storage facility for growth factors, they are an effective alternative treatment to naturally stimulate hair growth when injected directly into the hair follicles directly on the affected area.
The problem is, that platelets do not “magically” leave your bloodstream and deposit themselves into the scalp skin. In a Platelet-rich plasma PRP session, a vial of blood is taken – just like a blood test at the laboratory – and the platelets are separated from the red blood cells and white blood cells by centrifuge.
The platelets — laden with hair follicle stimulating growth factors — are then delicately placed into the scalp at an extremely precise depth by a tiny, state of the art medical grade needling device.
This allows the PRP to be injected directly into the hair follicle of the infected area.
-
First of all, it is the only natural method of stimulating hair growth — no matter what the cause.
Additionally, there are minimal side effects and risks involved with platelet-rich plasma PRP hair therapy. There is little to no pain associated with this non-surgical treatment option.
The treatment allows hair to grow better and much faster than before. Patients have also seen less shedding as their hair grows thicker and fuller. The therapy is suitable for both men and women. It is impossible to be allergic to PRP as it is your own tissue, just going back into you.
Having performed the PRP treatment hundreds of times since becoming available in Canada, Ildiko, our Director of Cosmetic Medicine, has perfected the process of removing and preparing the platelets, in our in-house laboratory.
She then injects your PRP back into your scalp and provides a high level of care throughout the entire process.

Treatment begins with a traditional blood draw for PRP harvesting. The blood will be spun in a centrifuge where the golden plasma is separated for use.
Once the PRP has been prepared for the treatment, Ildiko will identify the specific treatment areas with the patient to address their concerns. The plasma substance is then injected into the specific treatment areas on the scalp.
This encourages the growth processes in the scalp as the PRP interacts with hair follicles.
Patients can expect the entire treatment to take approximately 45 minutes.
After the treatment is complete, the hair should not be washed for 24 hours.
For maximum results, we recommend you use Revoderm Shampoo and Conditioner with a natural DHA Blocker to have healthier, fuller hair.
The Revoderm Hair Growth Serum will help to stimulate new hair follicles and stop hair loss.

PRP has demonstrated significant improvement in hair growth when treating androgenic alopecia, hair thinning or any type of hair loss. Having said that, every patient responds differently with some experiencing minimal improvement, while others see great results.
Based on all the medical data, 3 treatments spaced one month apart provide the best results. Additionally, a boosting treatment is recommended 3 months after the initial procedure.
In our clinic at Derm.ca, we compliment the PRP treatment with nutrient-rich hair vitamin infusion injections.

No. It depends on your pain tolerance. If you have a low tolerance to pain YOU may apply a numbing cream at home 30 – 45 minutes before your appointment.
*Most patients do not require any numbing cream.

For best results PRP can be combined with other laser treatments. Most clinical studies show 3 treatments are necessary for best results, each appointment is one month apart.

This is a common question in our clinic. Melasma can be managed but not “cured” in the strict sense of that term. Thus it is essential that sun exposure be mitigated through use of zinc oxide sunscreens. We now know that visible spectrum light (i.e. not just ultraviolet light) – can exacerbate melasma. We recommend Venuceane containing zinc oxide sunscreens as this ingredient helps reverse damage to skin cells that is caused by visible spectrum light. Retinol is also recommended as this helps exfoliate out subtle pigmentation by acceleration of epidermal turnover. Finally, antioxidant peptides serum with a unique trans-epidermal carrier molecule is usually recommended. This 1-2-3 home therapy is ideal to prevent relapse and the need for more laser.
